LTM4616 is a low-voltage high current output switch type DC/DC regulator submodule (μ ModeleTM). In small LGA lead-free packages, there are supporting components such as switch type controller chips, power MOSFETs, inductors, capacitors, etc. Due to its ability to operate in prominent mode, pulse skipping mode, and spread spectrum mode, it has very high efficiency under light loads and reduces switching noise. LTM4616 adopts current mode control to provide output overvoltage, overcurrent, and thermal shutdown protection, thereby improving the reliability of the system.
The LTM4616 is a complete dual 2-phase 8A per channel switch mode DC/DC power regulator system in a 15mm × 15mm surface mount LGA or BGA package. Included in the package are the switching controller, power FETs, inductor and all support components. Operating from an input voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V, the LTM4616 supports two outputs within a voltage range of 0.6V to 5V, each set by a single external resistor. This high efficiency design delivers up to 8A continuous current (10A peak) for each output. Only bulk input and output capacitors are needed, depending on ripple requirement. The part can also be configured for a 2-phase single output at up to 16A.
The low profile package enables utilization of unused space on the back side of PC boards for high density point-ofload regulation.
Fault protection features include overvoltage protection, overcurrent protection and thermal shutdown. The design of product packaging aims to save space and enhance heat resistance. The LTM4616 is available with SnPb or RoHS compliant terminal finish.

The LTM4616 is tested under pulsed load conditions, such that TJ ≈ TA. The LTM4616E is guaranteed to meet performance specifications over the 0°C to 125°C internal operating temperature range. Specifications over the –40°C to 125°C internal operating temperature range are assured by design, characterization and correlation with statistical process controls. The LTM4616I is guaranteed to meet specifications over the –40°C to 125°C internal operating temperature range. The LTM4616MP is guaranteed and tested over the –55°C to 125°C internal operating temperature range. Note that the maximum ambient temperature consistent with these specifications is determined by specific operating conditions in conjunction with board layout, the rated package thermal resistance and other environmental factors.
